My only real personal problem with the souls is charms getting in the way literally all the time. Something about what was done to how the game handles drops seems to guarantee at least a gold charm, which is just annoying. I know it's not like we're in a server where picking items takes 3 seconds and then this doubles that into 6, but still. Another problem I have is with how the prices might struggle to set due to the secrecy with drop rates. Had we the exact numbers, we could use them to calculate how much each soul and key should cost, but as is we'll just have to throw around potentially arbitrary prices and see what works out. This looks like it'll be a slow process unless I'm missing something, because I'm just not seeing people buying or selling any of it any often. And some might argue that it'd feel a little stale in the long run if we just got to get that done with so quickly, or that the Soul System is already playing it too safe, but I'd overlook that for a fully stable for-everyone money making method. :/ I also think both of the interfaces are rather bland, but indeed I am too lazy to put together better ones so whatever But souls are already 100% drops? I don't think I understand what you mean, but I do agree that not every less-than-rare drop needed to go.

But that'd be a suggestion, and that's not the section we're at. I've posted this here instead for a reason, and it's that I've taken issue with how none of what I've pointed out was explained to people. There's really not a lot to that, so I figured I might as well do it myself while I was at it. The point is "look at how much there is to it and how none of it was talked about... let's also discuss whatever on the system while we're at it" rather than a full focus on the latter, hence I don't go out of my way to address specifics or propose ideas within the OP. I understand if I've failed to give that impression, though. Also, complaints don't solve little. Voicing a complaint allows for more people than the one voicing to potentially acknowledge something as an issue and it's from there that ultimately come proposals for solutions. So, to move forward, here's a good one: Due to ::soulroom sharing the issue with ::market of not being mentioned anywhere in-game (besides the updates interface, but that's temporary), there should definitely be something at Home linking to the place so that newbies and returning players can realize it's a thing by themselves. What object should be used and where should it be positioned?

A week ago, we were introduced to the Soul System. This was a pretty big change to the server, waving goodbye to what were mostly junk drops in exchange for souls that can be gathered and fused into keys for use at a chest. It's both done good and has had its side effects, but what I want to address first is the fact that they weren't explained. The update thread only explained how it works, and nothing was set up in-game to explain even that much. Given the initial discontent and ongoing occasional bits of confusion, I believe its intention and impact was to be explained too, so I take it upon myself here. What good it did do It makes PvM money making a safe and constantly rewarding progression. If you need money so badly but didn't get what you wanted, you can still sell those keys if you kept them. If you didn't... well, that's where you decide whether to reconsider. The system ensures everyone always gets something that they want to pick up, which is a far cry from the constant sighs that things like Shadow Kings dropping pieces of rune armor used to cause. It also provides everyone with something that will always reliably sell (once prices are set, that is). Being a concrete manifestation of a usable chance to get drops from a given NPC, the souls and keys are inevitably desirable for everyone, and that's nothing short of good. The price that was paid Always getting something desirable from bosses means always having to pick it up (and missing out on our main source of money until an ultra rare rolls is about as "optional" as it gets, so don't even), adding a layer of tedium to boss killing that only grows the quicker you kill, and something needs to be done to reverse that. Making souls a non-100% drop but more abundant in quantity needs to be avoided, though, as it'd destabilize the good they do. Being the sole drop outside the rare ones, the safer it's played the better. Always getting something, and getting that something's ultimate benefit (the keys) within a pretty consistent range of kills feels... artificial. The joys of killing things and getting little items that add up to a nice bunch of profit in the end are no longer there. Not that was working well before, though; there weren't little things to begin with due to other issues such as Skilling's irrelevance Ranged and magic requiring no resources PvM in general requiring no resources Lack of equipment variety even among lower tiers of gear And while those are all issues of their own, and indeed the Soul System doesn't solve everything they cause... I ultimately have to hand it to the developers on this one; they've managed to create an effective patchwork to the bigger issues' negative effects on the economy while not leaving us to wait for the time when they start fixing them. Do you agree, or not? Can you overlook the sense of artificiality if it means consistent money making? Are you going to miss all the shiny junk (even though you'll get plenty of it from the chest)? With the most recent update, Ironmen got themselves a pair of new bosses, Magegray got himself a couple new drops and the pet and dream mystery boxes got discontinued. Up until there it's plenty obvious why except for the dream mystery box; that does feel out of the blue but in no way similar to what I'm about to talk about. Now for the rest of the update. The new upgrades. Drygore offhand upgrades, finally putting up something between it and the ice offhand, and Virtus upgrades, finally giving mages something above dragonbone. The upgraded offhand doubles on the base's +30 strength bonus. Not only is this a gain of a whooping, well, +30 extra strength, but this puts it only 5 strength behind the ice offhand, way too close for an upgrade to an item that's just not that troublesome to gather a sufficient bunch of. Obviously, drygore offhand (u) needs to have its strength cut by at least 10. Elite Virtus kinda exemplifies the issue with the flat gamble that the upgrade chest is (which is a thing of its own). Because Virtus isn't particularly hard to get, the upgrade had to be made so rare that people lost up to 50 sets attempting to get the upgrade. For one, it doesn't make sense that it goes from regular to Elite. For seconds, I feel like this is a way, way missed chance to finally give mages an AM set. That should happen, ideally put up as Magegray's new "ultra"-rare drop and it should be what upgrades into Elite. Bam, the mages get some love, the upgrade makes sense (and has no business or need to have a success chance of ~2%) and Magegray gets more relevance too. The achievements store. I'm fairly sure there must be something in the works, but yeah, that's not something that should have been released without a new means of obtaining the points. I'll hold up on judging the prices until whatever must be on the works comes out. And finally... The american boxing gloves. Honestly, I don't know what can or should I say, but I do know that I should say it before too many people buy them and before they move on to their proper price. I guess calling them unnecessary for firsts is as good a start as I can make, considering the boxing gloves are way beyond just "strong enough" for there to be any need or want for even stronger gloves. Don't get me started on just how much room there is to be filled between flame and boxing gloves. Their stats are plainly unfair to being with, being above even the extremely rare dream gloves. And lastly, their (promotional or not) price. I don't know what to call it without stirring up controversy, but I do know that no person, at no point, should ever be able to pay their way to a donation-exclusive best-in-slot for any cheaper than its lessers. It's unfair to say the least (and what I settle with), awfully pay2win if I'd be allowed that much boldness and a cash grab at worst. I'd really like to have a talk with whoever came up with these, if only to cover the inevitable "well if it's so bad come up with something to do about it while keeping them worth the $120" that might come across some people's heads and to keep something like this from happening again.

With the upgrade to IPB4, the forums got a new look. Tidy, sleek, professional and all that. Right to the point, the only issue I have with it is that the side of the posts with the poster's info is just so... off. .cAuthorPane_author [poster name in big letters to the left of Posted whenever] has a -11px margin-right, and a separately defined -15px -10px 0px -0px margin, which either way de-centers the poster name at the top of the post. If the idea was to cover the part of the grey line that would go up to the [Name in big letters - Posted whenever] part of the post, then a 11px solid #0C0C0C border-right is needed to compensate. .membertitle [rank below poster name] has what as far as I can tell is an unnecessary -10px margin-left. .borderbot [poster info] has a 5px padding-top and another 5px padding-bottom, but why not just use padding? It just doesn't feel right for those things to be so close to their borders when just about nothing else is. Here's a demonstration of the fix through Stylish:

Thanks for the update, just one thing though- Respective. The word is respective. The message feels redundant in the first place anyway, since of course an item upgrades into its respective upgraded version; just "The following items are upgradeable:" would do fine, or "The following items can be used on this chest for a chance at upgrading them:" to keep the no-guarantee part clear. Also, is this list going off internal names or something? Because it's saying the ice katana upgrades into an "ice katana u".
